The U.S. is indeed an elitist culture. The more you have the more freedoms you have.
Freedom is an ideal that must be grasped by others & then they must be willing to, if necessary fight for it, on their own.
It would be great if all nations accepted the ideal of freedom but not all want the type of freedom we have or think we have.
We have the freedom of speach, religion, to gather in one place without intrusion, Sexual freedom, & a host of other freedoms but some of our freedoms are being lost. The freedom to protest, now you must have a permit & it is up to others to decide if you get that permit. You cannot drink or smoke where you please(I'm not saying that this is bad). We really don't even have the right to elect a president, the electoral college does that for us. We don't have the right to vote on bills that are passed in either house that affect us as a nation. Now one man can decide whether we go to war or not. That is a lost freedom. Along with a few more that you haven't noticed, yet. I think that I have given you a few ideas of some of the freedoms you have lost, perhaps you should start to investigate some of the others on your own, maybe all of us should.

Freedom of what?? Killing peoples around the world? No thanx !!
Okay i appreciate that you peoples have better democracy than many other countries and freedom of thoughts?? Umm yes that is also good but this is good even in third world countries so nothing special..while comparing with England i would appreciate your religious tolerance as well...as you peoples have more religious freedom in your country as compared to many other countries like England and France !! you know what?? Your anti-human foreign policies are masking everything.....because the americans whome i know are all very nice peoples... but wht to say about your governament !
Elitist culture? Do you peoples realy have some culture?? sorry Man , your society has some peoblems which is destroying your generation......i fear you peoples would be having no 'culture' at all in near future..just look at your new generation and your society and calculate yourself whats wrong with it !

Those two aren't really an either/or setup. Do you mean, is the US an elitist culture for *thinking* all people, worldwide, should have the freedom we have? That's a little extreme. I think it would be lovely if all people, worldwide, had the freedoms we have. But that said? Unless they ask for our help, I think it would be elitist, or at least condescending, to try to force those freedoms on them.

Everyone should have the freedoms we enjoy in the USA, but a lot of the world does not want them.
Our religious freedom, freedom of gender choice, freedom to wear revealing clothes, freedom to criticise goverment or religious figures- many in the world are repulsed by this.
Edit: Those of you who say we don't have freedom in the USA have not lived somewhere where a man dressed as a woman would get stoned to death, or an author sentenced to death for writing something negative about a religious figure, or women must wear total body covering at all times and are not allowed to drive, get an education, vote, or speak their mind. You are totally clueless about what freedom is and what the lack of it means.

I love how politicians and lawyers over look the most important part of the Constitution just to dissemble the body of it. The most important part I have found is the Preamble. That implies how to approach the body of the Constitution. The Constitution is how we want the world to perceive us. Then the Bill of Rights is a treatise with ourselves.

Yes, all people should have the freedoms we have and if every other country on earth adopted the US Constitution they would have a better chance to have our freedoms. We are trying to help the Iraqi people have the same freedoms we have here but liberals who say they love freedom and equality hate Bush for trying to help Iraq be free.

Definition of Elite: "A group or class of persons or a member of such a group or class, enjoying superior intellectual, social, or economic status"
I think you owe "Merln" an apology. Or do you consider yourself such an 'elitist' that you can't be wrong?
Should we be allowed to force freedom on the world? Let me ask you this;
should China be allowed to imprison Christians for their beliefs?
Should Iranians and Afganis be allowed to behead a person for preaching Christianity?
Should women be killed because their husband asked that they be buried with them at their death?
Should Sudanese men be allowed to buy and sell women in or out of slavery?
Now, what is it that we are IMPOSING on these poor, unfortunate people? Freedom? You're a real nutjob boy.

According to the Declaration of Independence, all men are created equal and endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights. If we believe this to be true, then these rights don't just stop at our borders.
Does that mean the US should be the ones to fight for these rights for others? Not necessarily, but we most certainly shouldn't stand in the way of those that are fighting for the rights they deserve.

We are.... and we deserve to be. Elite, by definition, means that something is the best, or is outstanding. Even our enemies envy our wealth and our military strength. Why shouldn't we call ourselves Elite? In every social experiment, there are cultures that rise above others. Is it wrong to acknowledge that we have accomplished doing so? Hell yes! I am an elitist! And I'm damn proud to be in a nation that the world considers ELITE!

Shut up and eat your propaganda. Calling yourselves free and democratic doesn't make it so. America doesn't rate too highly on the freedom scale. Freedom of speech is severely curtailed, you can be jailed indefinitely without recourse to a lawyer, freedom of assembly - until you are attacked or photographed by the Secret police and need I mention the state sponsored murder that is the "death Penalty"?
