Wearing women's clothing, makeup, any items associated with the opposite gender.

If a man dresses in female undergarments or dresses or skirts or high heels then they would be considered to be crossdressing. Wearing earrings, necklaces, long hair is no longer considered as "crossing the gender line", depending on the type of earrings, the style of necklace or the stying of the hair (since some styles are more feminine than others.) If a man has an obsession with one piece of feminine clothing then he could be considered to have a "fetish" for that item and not be a cross dresser. Cross dressers tend to sample more than one item and are not tied to any single item or style. Crossdressers can be someone who wears panties on a regular basis rather than men's briefs or someone who occasionally dresses completely as a female (including makeup and wig). Cross dressers are not necessarly the same as drag queens since the majority of Crossdressers identify themselves as hetero or bisexual while drag queens tend to be homosexual. Crossdressers also try to blend in as a female (also called passing) whereas drag queens tend to be overtly flamboyant and try to call attention to thier presentation.
