Personally I think so, Canada needs to move on.

I dont think we should. The queen and being a commonwealth nation is part of our heritage. Without it we are no different than americans except colder. Its not even like she has any real power. She is completely symbolic.

So we can have a "president" appointed by the prime minister rather than a governor-general? Why bother?

I think the historical link still has some value. I vote for the monarchy. Still, I think the Queen ought to do a few more official functions here. I'd like to see her open parliament for example. That only happened once when Diefenbaker was PM.

Canada already IS a republic. Canada was a republic, probably before you were born.

what difference will it make either way. maybe you dont like the fact that you speak english or french and your ancestors are English or French.
