Here in the states you must be liscenced by both your state and national boards, then you must submit an application, case studies and major paper to the Emergency and Critical Care board, then sit for their examination. Beyond that, I think you need a strong stomach, calm head and the ability to think quickly. You also need to enjoy working at night, weekends and holidays when ER vets are typically open.
