I do it all the time, and that is why I get paid for working. if you don't want to do that, then talk to your boss and tell him how you feel. or find a new job.No one can make you do anything you don't want to do. and it depends if he just manages a store, and he has no choice to cut down hours. but talk to him before you do anything. good luck.

In UK average working week is 37 half hours which is around 7 hours per day five days per week with two days off.
It is up to you your contract and what you talked about with your employer before you started on when and how these fit in.
You are entitled to a break of 15 mins if you work over four hours.
No one can make you do anything you dont want to do. I many years ago took on a hairdressing apprentaship but never got trained by salon and like you opened the shop ever morning and closed it up every evening it was my own fault I got stuck in that ssituation so I took my boss to tribuneral due to no training as I had signed a contract. Ended up leaving as she made my life a misery after. This was in the 70's times are diffrent now say something if not happy.

I used to work on my own for the whole day when my collegue was off. Some businesses have 50 members of staff and others have 2 or 3. Nothing wrong with that. If you don't feel safe or don't like it then i'm sure you can find work somewhere else!

Whaaahhhhhhhh!!!! Don't be such a whiner. You are lucky to have a job that doesn't put you life in imminent danger. Join the military - that will put things in perspective for you.

i used to be a driver a spend 9 hours on my own on the road.... I'm now a fork truck driver and do 12 hour shifts .... 4.5 hours really isn't going to kill you ....sorry .... the only time there may be something wrong with this is if our still at school then you shouldn't be on your own at all

I'm assuming that you're at the legal age for working. In which case you could always quit. Additionally, working for 4.5 hours hardly qualifies as hardship.

What seems to be the problem?
They must think you are a responsible person to entrust you to open and close. Do you get scared or lonely? Maybe perhaps you should express your feelings to your supervisor.

I did it all the time. I was the only one there on my shift for most of the shift.
If you don't like this, maybe you should find a different job?
