There is thuggery in all cultures.Unfortunately a few thugs in our community make people think we're all thugs and it's just not true. We need some more positive role models like Oprah,Bill Cosby, etc.Despair is the main cause of the thuggery. When youngsters in the ghetto see thugs driving Mercedes Benzs and BMW's,they want to be just like them.Although negative, these are their role models because they are tangible see fast cash as a way out of poverty. It's more complex as you think,it's not just a matter of speaking out.For instance, when I was in high school in the 80's,Nancy Reagan came out with the "Just say NO" campaign. How realistic is this to the youth in the inner cities ? Not very !

There are a lot of black people with morals that speak out against negativity in our communtiy but there is no way to get to everyone. Just like the white community has their trailer trash the black community has their ghetto thugs. There always has to be some bad to go with the good. That's life.

Are you trying to say that Black people, themselves, have no morals? Are you stereotyping the entire Black Community by one or two people who have committed crimes?
I don't know what your ethnic background is, but I do know that there are criminals from every walk of life. There are also good, moral, family people from all walks of life.

We do. And when that occurs we're labeled as complainers.
And if you're waiting for a group of educated Black people against violence with positive messages to appear on the 10pm news don't hold your breath. You know good and hell well that negative news makes good headlines.

How do you know they don't?
I know PLENTY of organizations in black communities that do just what you ask. Just because they are not in the media like all of the so-called "thuggery" is, does not mean it doesn't happen.

Black people are not a club. They do not have a common code of behaviour They come from different cultures and backgrounds just like white or Asian people. Each one does not represent them all. What would you have them do? As a white person, why do you not speak out against white crime?
