Okay, I'm 8 weeks pregnant with my first child, and I started getting morning sickness last week (week 7). That's all well and good, I expected it, but today has been awful with it. I can't hold anything down for more than an hour or so, except water stays down pretty well. Am I overreacting, because so far it hasn't been this bad, or should I be okay, I'm just confused.

Thanks!

I feel for you! I am pregnant with my first as well, and I was so sick (all day long usually) I could barely eat anything for the first 3 months! I started my 2nd trimester in mid January. But the good news is I woke up a few mornings ago and the sickness was gone. My doctor said it would probably happen like that... All I can suggest is to try and eat as soon as you wake up. My husband leaves for work about 15 minutes before I usually get up in the mornings, so he would bring me a little cup of apple sauce or some toast and that would help quite a bit. Just eat small meals frequently. I ate about 5 to 6 times a day, but a much smaller portion than normal. You don't want to over-eat and make yourself feel worse. Just try and get a good amount of sleep at night and avoid bad smells... Have someone else do trash/ dishes/ dog duty until you get to feeling better and you should be okay! Best of luck to you. Hope the excitement can outweigh the sickness!

I was in the same situation. I could not hold anything but water down for 3 weeks straight and after that I could only eat a few things. Lost 14 lbs in the first 2 months. Still stay a little sick. Nausea went away but I still throw up 2 times a day usually. I am now 32 weeks. Still have not gained any weight. Good luck. Hope yours gets better than mine.

I had pretty bad nausea at that time, and even though I always managed to keep food down, some times I felt like I would lose it. I found the following things helpful: soda crackers and ginger ale, lemon, preggie pops, laying down in a quiet room with some nature music, seabands (accupressure in the wrists help more than you think!). Also a tea I bought from earth mama website, it helped a lot. If nothing works, you might want to check with your doctor, you might have hyperemesis gravidarum (or something like that) where pregnant women can't keep food down. I hope you feel better soon. (My sickness lasted until I was about 10 - 12 weeks).

Welcome to the wonderful world of pregnancy! With my first child I pretty much had morning sickness(though not extreme) for 8 months. The most important thing is that you can keep it down for a while and NOT lose weight. If it doesn't reside by the end of your first trimester(or gets worse in the mean time) you can talk to your doctor about things that will help. In the mean time avoid the smells and foods that trigger it and keep plenty of saltimes and flat pop on hand. You'll be fine when that baby comes and it will all be well worth it! Good luck!

AW-WW BLESS YOUR HEART it can be really really bad i would avoid bad smells and steer clear of anyone cooking i actually ate out alot during that time also i found keeping rolls of lifesaver candy all around the home helped when i started getting that TERRIBLE mouth watering feeling on the flip side it will go away!!!

You will be fine- it's common for symptoms to change and vary in intensity. Just keep drinking your water, mention it to your midwife if you want to.
Try dry toast, or plain crackers.
Ginger is also good for easing sickness/nausea, and so are the travel sickness bands you can buy in pharmacies :)

Good luck, and congratulations on your pregnancy :)

Crackers, ginger ale, ginger tea, ginger snaps. Those helped me out. I couldn't hold much down either. I couldn't even take the prenatal vitamins b/c they made me gag, which then made me sick. Don't worry, it does go away. If it gets worse though, talk to your OB. They can prescribe stuff to help.

I had horrible morning sickness with my last pregnancy (3 months ago) I would set my alarm for 4 am....get up...eat....go back to bed...by the time I got up later the feeling would subside, if you get something in your stomach it usually goes away.
if that don't work, keep crackers by the bed, eat them BEFORE you get out of bed....

Ginger ale and soda crackers. If it's really bad as soon as you get up in the morning, munch on some soda crackers BEFORE you get out of bed.

Take vitamin B-6 with your prenatals at night with a small snack. After 3 days of this, my nausea was totally gone!

My doc recommended...
