I am looking for a more permanent form of birth control. I'm not to sure of the Implanon idea of inserting something under my skin yet!! I've tried the pill (forgot to take it), the ring (kept bleeding), condoms (fizzles spontaneity). Please if anyone has had and IUD, which do you recommend...the hormonal or copper one? thanks

I have a Mirena IUD. I started out with the copper (paragard) IUD. THAT WAS HORRIBLE, bad cramps, bleeding for 2 weeks. I ended up anemic. However, most docs won't insert an IUD unless you had childbirth (especially natural), as sometimes they fall out. The Mirena is great, I have no cramps, and after 3 months, I had no periods. I havent had any periods in 3 yrs. I think the mirena lasts 5 or 6 yrs, the copper lasts 10. Dont worry about the hormones in mirena, they are localized and minimal to your bloodstream ( I cant take the pill due to the hormone side effects and I am fine with the mirena). Hope that helps

I have the mirena (hormonal) IUD and I love it. I have had it since July 2004 and it has not caused any problems. At first my period was a little out of whack but now I do not even get a period. I have not had any side effects, no weight gain, no acne, or anything else that could possibly happen. I am very happy with it and intend to get another when my 5 years are up. I have used many forms of birth control and this by far is my #1 choice & reccomendation. Good luck.

I recently had a baby, because I forgot to take my birth control pill, so when choosing a form of birth control I wanted something that was effective and that I could just forget about. I chose the Mirena IUD, and had it for about 4 months. You aren't supposed to have a period with the Mirena, and I never really had a period, but I constantly had spotting, and had to wear a pantyliner everyday. I also had a lot of pain, basically like mestrual cramps. I couldn't even enjoy sex! I had the Mirena removed and started back on the pill. I feel much better now, and have no pain. I have also heard of several other people that have had these same symptoms. So I would advise against an IUD, but ultimately it is your decision.

I have the Mirena IUD........I love it. I have 5 kids, I do not want any more. After much research my husband and I chose the IUD for long term birth control. The added bonus to not having to worry about birth control is no more periods! I had spotting off and on for the first few months after having it placed. To me that was a better then having heavy painful periods.

Please feel free to email me through yahoo answers if you have anymore questions.

I have the mirena IUD, I had it three years this month. I love because I after six month with it I stopped getting my period.
My mom said the copper IUD makes you bleed heavier and you still get period with. Mirena is a hormal IUD check out www.mirena.com and take the quiz to see if it right for you. Good luck.

I have had the Mirena (hormonal) IUD for almost three years now and it's wonderful. I don't have periods (no cramps! no stains!) and I don't have to worry about birth control. It's generally only for women who have had a baby already. Have you thought about the patch?
