To be honest, I can't stand rap. I really, really don't like it. I don't think that I'll ever like it. I do however, like basketball. I own several NBA basketball video games for PS2. But what I don't understand is why every single NBA video game plays rap and rap only on its sound tracks.
Why is this?
Do they need to diversify it? I think so.

"Well don't they usually play rap music at basketball games?"
Not really. When you go watch the games you'll find that they mix it up alot when it comes to types of music. I've been to several arenas where they play '80s hair metal music almost as much as anything else, primarily because the beats get the crowd going.

I'm not saying that I'm not going to buy the video games because of the music, I'm just saying that they should change it up some.
For the NBA 2K series, 3 years ago they didn't even play real rap, instead they played different types of beats that came from several different music backgrounds.

jokesterz, your assumptions about what Americans listen to are wayyy off. You'll find that people in urban areas listen to rap and hip-hop but they DON'T make the majority. If we're gonna go by the old "majority rules" theory then it should be country music and rock that are the most popular because that's what most of America listens to. Just go anywhere in the south, or drive out of the city and listen to what the radio stations play.

first of all, bradley t, the nba is real basketball. in every sport, there are poor role models, but many of the players are OUTSTANDING role models, guys like Dirk Nowitzki, Tony Parker, Dwayne Wade, Steve Nash, and Jason Terry, to name a few. these guys play for the team and care about winning a championship and being a good leader and role model. also, just because u don't like rap, bradley t, doesn't mean its not real music. it is important to many people in this country and across the world, so u cant just say it is fake music. and to answer the question, yes, a lot of times, basketball is associated with hip hop culture and rap music, just like baseball video games usually play just rock music. however, i agree with u, it couldn't hurt to add a little variety to the video game soundtracks, but it never really bothered me.

As a teenager, I don't feel as though these things make a noticeable difference to way I do things or to the way I behave. I know how to respect others and what is and isn't acceptable, even though I've experienced these games and listened to music with inappropriate language. It's not actually the video game or the song that violence or swearing is acceptable, though it can influence the child, but at the end of the day I think it's the person them self who chooses whether this sort of thing should be acted. Parenting is a major factor in this topic. If a child has been brought up knowing what's right and wrong, then they will be able to enjoy these things without doing harming anyone.

Well don't they usually play rap music at basketball games? I think that is simply a reflection of popular music.
Have you thought about contacting the creators of the game and letting them know? I am sure there are other people who don't like rap as well and would like option of picking their own soundtrack.

probably because there are usually more rap songs that have to do with basketball; if you submit a few folk songs about basketball to them and ask them to add it to the options list, i'm sure they'd oblige.

The obvious answer is because the NBA is full of thugs and that is what they listen to. And the majority of people who actually like the NBA (which isn't real basketball) are thugs and they like rap (which isn't real music). So that is why!
