It's nothing short of immoral that while shamelessly blocking attempts to raise the minimum wage , the Republican Congress gave itself nine(9) pay raises since 1997> a total of $35.000 dollars! Eight+(8) million American workers have not had an increase in the minimum wage since 1997=$5.15 2010=$7.25!! The increase amounts to 17.6cents an hour for 12yrs of waiting for an increase in our hard earned paycheck! Would you work for 12yrs for a 17.6cent an hour increase in your paycheck? THATS INSANE!! Are we suppose to be grateful? Thanks for nothing!!!

Maybe not a vow of poverty, but definitely have to live on welfare or minimum wage for a month just so they can see what it is like.

That's a very interesting proposition, I haven't thought of that before.
I don't know about living in POVERTY, seeing as this is a very important job. But maybe a MUCH smaller salary.
Good point for discussion!

I don't have any problem with our elected leaders being well compensated for their service.Think it through. What kind of leaders would we get if they weren't? Independently wealthy folks who could step away from their careers.
I do have a problem with them being able to exempt themselves from certain laws or regualtions and I do believe that if they violate the law they should be treated just like any other citizen.

Yes and they should have to pay for social security and their health insurance. I think that's a really good idea, instead of voting themselves a pay raise. What a great idea!

Why they already are on welfare. Who pays their wages but tax payers. The thing I don't like is that their medical is above and beyond their incomes.
