i wanna start by saying congrats!! im pregnant with my first baby now, im 32 weeks. the first appt is kinda scary for you just b/c you dont know whats going on too much. all they do is alot of testing (nothing really hurts) and a pap smear. but there are tons of great websites to go to that give you weekly information as your pregnancy progresses. here are a few:

www.whattoexpect.com
www.babyzone.com
www.pregnancyweekly.com

those are the ones that i use. they are very helpful and very useful. if i ever have a worry, all i have to do is look up my week, see if its normal, and voila! i have my answer. its like that here, but you can do the same on those. but, congrats again. God bless you and good luck with your pregnancy!

I am also 12 weeks, although I went to the doctor 4 weeks ago, and have already had an ultrasound.

My best suggestion to you is to read as much as possible. Don't think that you are going to learn everything you've ever wanted to know about pregnancy once you've been to the doctor. They'll confirm your pregnancy, do an ultrasound and give you your due date. They also answer specific questions you have. But, they're not going to give you advice, etc.

I like 3 books. What to expect when you're expecting, the ultimate week by week guide to pregnancy and the girlfriend's guide. Between the 3, I've learned more than I ever thought possible about my pregnancy. Plus, it's always fun reading about the week ahead and seeing what the baby looks like this week.

Oh, and if you think I'm kidding about the doctors' office not being an all-revealing experience - the doctor actually confirmed that I had what to expect, and told me to consult it with basic questions!

Congrats! Start reading all the books and getting prepared now! I recommend "What to expect when you are expecting" Great book as it details everthing from week to week.

Also, start reading other parenting books and take First Baby class at your hospital. VERY helpful!

Have fun getting all the stuff and preparing the nursery. That is so much fun!

Oh.. and sleep now! You won't be getting much sleep for about a year or so after baby comes!

Mommyhood is the greatest thing ever! I loved being pregnant and I love being a mommy even more :)

Well I can only speak from my own experience! but Boppy pillows are awesome, they're a must!...
If you buy a breast pump buy an expensive one it's worth it!...
Don't waste your money on a baby wipe warmer they're not all that =-)...
Diaper genies are frustrating and not worth it...
I bought a changing table and never used it! we changed her on the floor or the couch...
Take everyones advise with a grain of salt, you're the mom!...
Don't name your kid something weird, you'll both get made fun of...
Breast feeding hurts! theres no 2 ways about it!...
Tell the nurses in the delivery room exactly what you want (meds or no meds, and any special requests) if you stay quiet with the nurses and let them run the whole show, you'll regret it later!...
Get the book, "My pregnancy week by week" it's much better than what to expect when you're expecting!...
Buy new super comfy pj's for when you go home....
don't warm formula! seriously! We never warmed my daughters bottles, we gave them to her room temp and we never had to worry about warming 'em like on car trips and stuff- it made it much easier!...
Don't sleep with the baby in your bed unless you want them to do it when they're toddlers too! and then maybe for a long time after that! it's a horrible habit to break!...
Do normal chores while they're sleeping, like vacuuming. That way they aren't sensitive to sounds and don't wake up all the time.
Like I said this is just stuff that really worked for us! Good Luck! Congrats!!!!

congrats on the baby....in about 2 months you get your first ultrasound...that is an exiciting, amazing thing. drink lots of water, it helps keep your face clear. also soda cracker or dry toast are good for nausea..If your interested....mixing ginger ale and water half and half helps nausea alot, Im seven months pregnant and it helped tons. smaller meals and avoid deep fried food and spicy foods will help with the heartburn/indigestion. let me tell you, when you get up to seven months Maalox and Tums will be your new best friends..Gas, constipation, heartburn, indigestion will all be regular. (Pepto might be better for you I don't like the stuff personally)

Be prepared for lots of testing! Bloodwork, urine, etc. The biggest piece of advice I could give is not to worry. Enjoy the pregnancy!

Get some books, good books. 'What to Expect When You're Expecting' teaches you how to worry, and how to smile and say 'Thank you' to every bad idea a doctor could possibly foist off on you -- just say no.

But this:

is excellent.
