I am an atheist, this means I do not believe in Jesus, in Allah, in Buddist or any other God. I did not make this switch lightly. I was raised as a strict Christan. The reason why I am an atheist is because for over 3000 years too many people have been using "God" as an EXCUSE to murder, rape, discriminate and marginalize. To make matters worse has anyone ever attempted to have an intellectual debate with a violent religious zealot? I can't speak for the Koran but I have read some passages in the bible that could not have come from Jesus, the God of love.
Moderate religious people tell them they do not interpret their book literally. That they use common sense and ignore cultural norms that were normal back then. This sounds kind of similar to atheism. I use common sense, compassion, logic, human rights and I consider the current cultural norms.
If you Believe in God?, please explain logically to me how your able to ignore or even believe some parts of your holy book?

I believe in God. There was a time when I didn't, but I now have very good reasons for believing.
I agree that organized religions have and still do horrible things in the name of God. That's because they are run by humans and humans will do what they want to do and then use any excuse they can think of to escape blame for their actions.
Since what is written in the Bible was written by humans, of course it is going to be biased by whoever wrote it down. I believe that you need to look past the actual words and go by the basic messages that are sent. Don't kill people, don't steal, don't screw your neighbor's wife, etc. That and it's a good history book.
In all seriousness, everyone is going to interpret the Bible differently, so I think that basic morality is much more important. The bible does help lay some foundations for morality. I know that I do not believe the exact same things that other Christians do, but as long as we all believe in God and stick to the basics of what is right and wrong, who cares?
Once again, I agree with you in that we need to use common sense and consider today's culture, so if someone wants to read and interpret the Bible, they should keep those two things in mind.

Not all believers use "religion" as an excuse to kill, etc. It's too bad that some messed up people give Christianity a bad name, because they don't know or don't understand what Jesus taught. On the other hand, more humanitarian organizations, hospitals, etc., have been created by true Christians than you can count.
As for me, I was raised Ahteist, and became a Christian at 18. I detest the label "religion" for the following reason: religion is man's way of trying to reach to God--God made in man's image, so to speak. Instead, Jesus is God's way of reaching to man!
I logically believe in God, because this vast, complex universe, with intelligent beings just could not have come into existance without an intelligent designer! I just don't have enough faith to believe in evolution!

I believe in God, I think believing in God does not mean you have to necessarily believe in a "holy book" which was written by men.
Believing in God to me means believing that there is a higher being that can help you through life and will be there for you. Religions are man made and all those people that excuse murder, rape, etc in the name of God are really just messed up in the head not religious. God does not condone murder, rape etc.

I am also an atheist, and have been since i found out what an atheist was, I used to think there was a god, up to when I was about 6 or 7, I am now 13, and half my friends are Christians, but none of them can actually tell me why they believe in God, whatever that means, it certainly wont persuade me.

criminology and psychology describes these type of people. understand that people who claim"God made me murder this person" is either a criminal or metal ill. i believe logical sense doesn't make you necessarily a good person. a human being cannot teach you to be the best person except God. a higher way of being a great person and stronger.

I'm not a religious person. I think that religion was created because of the need of "control". When you don't know what's happening, when you don't have an explanation for a phenomenon, you try to explain it (for your own psychical comfort) using religious concepts.
Therefore, i consider religion a "comforting" instrument.

Faith is believing without seeing. That's all I can say about that. God has done so much for me I just can't tell it all. There's an old saying "If you don't believe in God, you had better be right!"

in my opinion u sound like u don't believe in religion but believe in God. there is a difference there u know.
i do believe in God. there is alot of hypocrites out there but i don't let that interfere with my rltp with God. i believe in my holy book and trust it completely. The people who use God for negative causes are wrong and they do not cause me to not believe in Him.
