Has anyone ever used a private detective to find a missing person who WANTS to be missing?
My 17-year-old daughter ran away from home 8 months ago and we don't know where she could be. She has not called anyone and apparently is trying to stay missing. Any ideas on finding her?

Child protective services and the police say that since she is 17, she is on her own and they won't "waste time" trying to find her.

The police say that since she has not committed any crime, they will not search for her because she is an "adult".

Unfortunatly no. I used to work for childfind, and I can tell you they won't help much either. Getting a private dectective is a good idea, because that person will be on your side. Once you find her, get her into councelling.

have not used a P.I. before but a few ideas that I have are:
Start with I am assuming you have done, unless she is legally an adult in your state. Filing a missing persons report with the police.
The next thing i might try is to contact the Media and try and drum up some sympathy for your situation. Maybe if you could get your story/hers out there she may see it or somebody might recognize her picture and phone you.
any credit cards, cell phones, bank cards etc. that she may have in your name or hers may lead you in the right direction. You can contact the phone provider or banks etc. and try to find her last or current location.
Depending on how many friends she has, they would be the best leeds. Since she is 17 a boy/man is probably involved somehow so at least one of her friends might know something or his last name, contacting his parents would be a good start.
I would say try as many ways as possible, which you probably already have to get information out and to do as much detective work you can on your own. The internet would probably provide assitance in finding a good P.I. in your area. Good luck I hope your daughter returns home soon.

consider getting a PI, she is your daughter and whatever made her run in the first place can't be all that bad but she may think it is. So in her mind she is hiding for whatever reason, she may be embarrassed to find you because of what she is doing or has done. When you find her just love her and it will work out...
My daughter ran away, got pregnant didn't have the baby and had a really bad relationship with the guy and I made it known to her that under NO circumstances did I change my love for her. Life is too short to quarrel and Now we are mending our fences and it is better, I just hug her when I see her now and I don't argue with her since I have to trust her to make the best decisions since I raised her as best as I could. By the way she is almost 25 now and we survived this...Good luck my thoughts are with you! I do know how painful it is!

Get the private dic. Do everything you can to make contact with her.I ran away whene I was younger, all I wanted was to be noticed and apritiated. Even if she tells you to jag off when you find her, make sure she knows you love her.Sh emay not belive you, but the effort will help.
You cant discount the other more unpleasent reasons for finding her. she my need your help. The "trying to stay missing "could be pain, shame or tragity.alot of time people dont make the raidar.
shes only 17 , I dont think she can be doing that well, I know after my resources ran out I wanted my mommy.
good luck, and prayers.

They fall in line with construction workers, plumbers, etc. the whole service industry has fallen prey to the belief that a lack of immediate assistance will add value to their service and increase their pay or draw out the project and their weekly pay. *looks over, spoon with icing in one hand joint in the other* Next time you contract with the lady you should offer an immediate assistance bonus and decrease the amount paid over time thus ensuring a speedy release. She just likes to whine, no matter if it is one on one or a whole baseball team she just wants to whine... its her signature move. You know all you needed to yell, was "Courtney put down the bong and get your azz in here" *walking down into the dungeon still smoking the J* - I thought you were willingly tied as so often occurs with my friends. Seemed a little strange, but I didn't know what to expect with you Brits and I figured hell this dames pretty smart, have house guests and get "locked" in the dungeon, way to duck out... Ted has been missing also and I thought maybe he was detecting in there with you.... *walks over to cell and frees you* Is everything good now? We have a few more hoodies to shoot, I made a bar run last night to replenish our supply and you have some anger that you may want to get out... You Brits really now how to grow the reefer my friend; oh and having JP frisked was a great idea, some of your personal stuff was discovered... Don't count on a discount from her, she bi+ch slapped me and said I was a dickette the other night so I actually work for her or you or whatever, can I get paid in pot, please?

You can hire one for any reason. They can usually find out more than you can. You can post her picture on a lost child site, but at her age she could be right next door and no one would tell you. If her best friend says she hasn't heard from her and is not lying I would be worried that something has happened to her. Girls always call their best friends in times like this. Have you tried the police?

Have you tried the police since she is 17? That would be my first stop. You get their services for free, you may spend thousands on a detective who can give you the same inform. the police can.

Hammer her friends. Anyone she might've trusted.
Look through her personal belongings, her trash, computer, email, cell-phone, anything you can get your hands on that she might've used to acquire the means for survival. Ie...a friend who'd take her in, a job, a boyfriend/girlfriend, etc...
I'm assuming of course that you've done the usual of contacting the Police and obtaining their help.
People in general, are creatures of habit. They develop a routine and even when they are out of their element, they'll try to follow that routine as closely as they can. Look at the places she hung out with friends. Places she might've visited with relatives before. Comments about places she'd been or seen like she might've wanted to go there again.
I think in this case, her closest friend would be the place to start.

Have the police given up on trying to find her?
If so, then yes, I would go to the expense of a private detective.
Good luck.

first- my sympathy over your grief of missing your daughter....it must be most frustrating.
i thought you had to be 18 to be considered an adult.??
if the police wont help you, the best way it with a PD. get your costs up front...and in writing.
good luck and god bless.....
since she does not want to be found, it will be more difficult....have you tried her friends?
did she meet someone online?
lots of questions......search her room for clues to as where she may have run TO--
