The largest island in the world - that is not also a continent - is Greenland.
The largest island in the world - that is not also a country - is Baffin Island (it is part of Canada).

The answer is Greenland, but tell your teacher that the question is worded poorly and that nearly any landmass on the planet can be considered to be an island.

Australia is often considered to be the largest "island", but obviously, it is no where near canada.
