the piercing parlour should have givin you after care instructions first of all. Second stay away from alcohol as it thins the blood and you have a fresh wound. Soft cold things are best to eat at least for the rest of the day, things you can eat with a spoon perhaps (i tried a fork after i had mine done and it kept getting stuck on my piercing). I know yogurt and ice cream aren't very filling but that would be your best bet. I was eating a chilli dog and fries on the 3rd day, but everyone heals differently. also suck on ice chips to help reduce the swelling and yes your words will be a little jumbled and slurred till the swelling subsides. don't forget everytime you put something in your mouth, gargle with an antiseptic mouthwash like listerine.....make sure it says antiseptic on the label or it won't do what its supposed to. oh and by the way, the first couple times you brush your teeth and tongue...... oh weird!

Wow, looks like a lot of people don't know what their talking about. This is from my sheet that I got when I had my lip done, but the same exact rules apply for any oral piercings.
Crushed ice held on tongue (not chewed) and ibuprofen or Tylenol will help keep the swelling down. You will want to do a 30 second
rinse anytime anything other than bottled water comes in contact with your mouth. You may also soak your tongue in the solution (sea salt water or H2Ocean) to help soothe a sore tongue. LISTERINE MAY BE USED, BUT ONLY HALF STRENGTH TWICE A WEEK. For other oral piercings, the same aftercare applies as to the tongue and the exterior should be cared for as a non-oral piercing. AVOID OPEN MOUTH KISSING, ALCOHOL, AND STRAWS FOR TWO WEEKS, ORAL SEX AND CHEWING TOBACCO FOR ONE MONTH. AVOID SMOKING FOR THE NEXT TWO TO THREE HOURS.
Well that's it, and I didn't have any problem with eating or anything after mine was done, but as long as you keep it clean and go by what I just spent like 15 minutes typing (lol) then nothing should go wrong.

During the first 3 hours avoid eating, drinking alcohol and smoking. Gargle with mouthwash and drink lots of water. Healing will take 5-10 days during which time you must avoid beer, alcohol and snacks or sweets between main meals. Intimate oral activities should be avoided. Brush your teeth after each meal. During the first 3 days you may experience difficulties in speaking, chewing and swallowing as the tongue will be somewhat swollen. Ice cubes are helpful to keep the swelling down.
Good luck! I have had mine for over 6 years - I love it, and so does my husband!!

well i've had my tounge pierced for almost 4 years now, and the person who said it slurs speach, crack your teeth is completly wrong. But you would need to avoid the alcohol for a while..but eating was no problem for me but you need to make sure you use listerine after every meal and inbetween to fight infection. After your piercing heals you will want to get a smaller bar. the bar you have in it now is big because your tounge is swollen due to it being new, but once it goes down and heals you should go to a place and get a smaller one with plastic balls if you prefer. hope everything goes well lol it doesn't take long to heal. goodluck!
