The way newborn brains work is that they save up all the experiences they have while they're awake, and then when they sleep, their brains process the information and try to decide what should be kept in long term memory, and what should be discarded.
Now, certain things are hard wired into our brains when we're born. Things like smiling and other facial expressions, and the ability to recognize faces and facial expressions. I'm sure you noticed that when you smile, you can get them to smile as well. They instictively know what a smile means.
It could be that when your baby smiles in it's sleep, it's processing a memory from that day that made them smile.
Of course, science hasn't unlocked all of the secrets of the human brain yet, but this is the best understanding we have of what's going on in there.

newborns don't really "smile." It could be caused by a number of things. If she is sleeping, it's most likely a muscle spasm. It's a possibility they smile, but I am not sure on that part. Don't freak out though. It's totally normal

I believe babies feel and understand love from birth. It has been proven that they know their mama's voice. I beleive they are dreaming. I also believe sometimes it could be gas. But back to the mother issue I believe a baby has bond from in the womb. I believe that they have a brain that theya re able to start learning things immediately. Just my opinion.

I dont know but I wish I did. People say its just a reflex, but honestly we will never know. Maybe they dream of still being in the womb all warm and cozy

Usually it's just gas if newborns are smiling when they are sleeping. Most babies don't have real smiles until they are about 2 months old.

Babies don't actually start to dream til they're about 8 months old, so before that I'm afraid it probably is wind - cute wind tho!
