Nothing is wrong with airing your opinion.

it could be because you flipped the blame to be on her. She was asking for advice on how to make a bad situation better. Your answer did not take her side into consideration because you mentioned that something similar happened to your brother. Perhaps her ex is a deadbeat, possibly your brother is not.

As a child who has ben in her kid's predicament... SOMETIMES it is better to cut the father out of a child's life. My father was an alcoholic, drug user who couldn't and wouldn't hold a job. He never visited me and when he did, he did not take good care of me. When I was with him as a baby, my mom would pick my up and I would be dirty, diaper unchanged, etc. Now that I know the truth, I know that I am better off without him. He contacted me when I was in my 20's. He admitted that my mother made a good choice. He admitted his drug and alcohol abuse. From conversing with him, I learned that he would have been in & out of my life as it suited him. He still cannot hold a job. He is still completely unreliable. It is unfortunate that I didn't have a father figure, but the one I would have had would have been worse.

Every situation is different. Every father (or mother for that matter) is not necessarily a positive force in a child's life. And that is a very unfortunate thing.

You may not have intended it to come across as harsh or unfeeling but perhaps this is the way she interpreted your answer. Chill out....we all get slammed from time to time with the things we say. Its not the end of the world nor will it most likely be the last time it happens

Don't let it worry you, there are some on here that have the mentality of a jackass, the sense of humour of a shoe lace and as much personality as a struck match. And if you want revenge on her, report her question, it'll be removed and she'll choke some points.

Opinions are a gathering of information on what's on a
persons mind, the only problem is some people don't
want to accept others opinions so they retaliate.

you were honest, I know I've asked stuff and don't always like the answers but it is what it is. Its not how you intend something to be, its how that person perceives what you said. Remember that, you're fine!

Nothing wrong with opinions at all as long as they are stated as opinions, not fact.
