Ok I'm a little insulted, in order to get a bussiness license in my county i had to get a TB test (understandable) but then an HIV, clamydia, gonnorhea test also, they had to do a throst culture and a cervix culture...what do they think i offer "happy endings"..I mean I know it's because of all the MT that use it for prostitution, but i'm curious, is this only the case in California or are other states just as strict?

I am in San Francisco and they do not have this requirement.

It is an insult and an outrage and the AMTA is working hard to reverse this arcane law.

Wow, I'm surprised at all the testing you had to go through. In BC Canada I completed a 3000 hour massage therapy program, the best in north america and all I had to do was get a criminal record check an my doctor to write a letter that I have no communicable diseases. No tests were necessary. And this is just through my school and the college of massage therapists here. To get a business license I just pay a small fee.

My husband went to school for this in Arizona, and as far as I know he didn't have to undergo any of these tests. We live in Oklahoma now, and you don't even have to have certification/licensing here unless you say that you have it. So either someone is treating you unfairly, or your state is extremely cautious.
