I'm thinking mostly U.K., France, Germany, and Denmark. Maybe Iceland, and/or Ireland and Spain.

Check out the RailEurope site... then you have to decide how long you are going to stay. You skipped over one of the best countries to visit, yet you will go right though it..Holland. Check out Amsterdam and The Hague for sure. And if you have nothing better to do, go towards the Chezc Republic and Hungary...still relatively inexpensive, nice climate in the fall, and lots of history.

A rail pass won't do you any good in Iceland.

Go to http://www.railsaver.com and input a rough itinerary to see if rail pass, point-to-point, or a combination of those, will be best for your itinerary.
