one F will totally screw up your gpa. If you can still withdraw, then do it and you will have a W instead of an F. A W does not factor into your gpa, just visible on your transcript. If you can get an AW (academic withdrawl) then that is fine too, especially since you have had some loss in your family. I would say drop it, dont fail. Even if you are graduating next semester.

This may not affect your financial aid nor your ability to graduate. But it will affect your overall GPA and forever and ever there it will be on your transcripts - that big fat "F" for every job you take that asks for a copy of your transcripts. Let's not even mention graduate school - where "F's" doesn't exactly mean "Fantastic!" Graduate schools have a GPA requirement for entrance and this could hurt you more than you know. With an increased number of people finding grad school is important for career advancement, five years down the rode, you may be thinking you want to go and yet will be thwarted in the application process because of an "F" that really didn't matter much at the time.

Go and talk to your professor and find out what you can do to fix this before it is no longer an option. Further, given your circumstances (death in the family), you should consult with your financial aide advisor and the registrar's office. If you are able to get a doctor's note concerning your stress, you may be able to drop the class on "medical reasons" and hence not harm your status at the university. It is worth checking in to.

I think the best thing to do would be to talk with your professor. He/She should be familiar with the Add/Drop/Withdrawal policy of the university and deadlines and such and should be able to offer you advice.

I don't know if your school has the same policy as when I went to school, but . . . if we got a D or F in a class, and we got a better grade when we re-took the class, the better grade would completely replace our D or F in our GPA. It'd still show up on the transcript, and we could only do this for a certain amount of D/F's. Maybe you should check to see if your school does this.

Be responsible and inform the instructor that you're having a difficult time, but don't just not go. Maybe they would have cut you some slack or maybe give you something outside the class in order to at least pass with a "C." Avoidance is easy at first, but hard in the end.

both will effect your transcript. Failing looks worse than a low grade. Sadly, it's too late to fix this. Oh, can you drop the class? If so, do that.

But it will lower your GPA. Why don't you just withdrawl from the class? Good Luck.

Take an early withdrawl if you can. That way you won't have an 'F' on your school transcripts.

I am sorry about your losses.
