I have a baby that won't sleep and I read alot of newly published information on the crying it out method and how it can cause brain damage in some babies. So i want to try the no cry solution but before I buy the book i wanted to know if it really WORKS????

It is a wonderful book! The length of time it takes depends on your baby and his/her sleep issues. You will see gradual improvement over time. If you really do what the author suggests, it will work. She spends a lot of time talking about the biology of sleep. It helped me to understand sleep and how babies sleep differently than adults. Best of all, the book is very easy to read. Just what you need when you have a baby who is up all night! Kudos for ignoring the cry-it-out crowd. Oh, and Kristin suggested the Ferber method. That's just the cry-it-out method in disguise.

I don't know what the "no cry solution" is, but my little one sleeps with me. He wakes a couple of times to nurse, but since he's in bed with me he doesn't get over stimulated with moving around. If he wakes and doesn't want to go back to sleep after nursing, I just lay next to him in bed until he goes back to sleep. No turning on lights or getting up with him and no eye contact. He's doing great and sleeping well at night.

My third had lots of trouble sleeping, but I used to get up with him instead of just staying in bed.

I am sorry I do not no the answer to the book. But I am not sure if this is your first child or not. But there is nothing wrong with letting your babie cry at times., Some times they just get spoiled. But then once again your child could have colic, Or something else might be wrong check with your doctor to make sure you babie is ok. I would not allow my child to cry for long lenghts of time espcially when there could possibly be a damgae to the brain. I have heard something about that my self, but I dont want to make the wrong commit on that. Good luck

I don't know if it works but I certainly like the idea behind it. Go to ebay and you can get a used copy for a few bucks!

I never heard of the no cry solution and I let my baby cry it out and he didn't get brain damage. I let him cry it out at 10 months of age because I was getting up every 20 minutes with him and I just couldn't take it anymore being a zombie and I let him cry it out one nite for about an hour and then he slept thru the nite the next nite and everynite.

I never heard of it, but it would be nice if it does. This is what worked for us:

Before she goes to bed we do our routine - Brush teeth, Bath, Bedtime Story, Bottle (with some cereal in it), Prayers, and then lights out.

When she first wakes, I let her cry for 5 minutes. Then if she doesn't go back to sleep on her own, I check her diaper and see that all is o.k. Then, I lay her down and tell her it's night-night time and to go to sleep.

Then I let her cry for 7-8 more minutes before I go in and soothe her - but DON't pick her up. I just pat her back and "shhhhhh..night-night..." and leave the room. Then I wait 10 more minutes and repeat the process. I never let her cry more than 10 minutes before I go back in and soothe her.

Some people say to let them cry it out for as long as it takes but I think thats too much. It only took 5 nights of this to get her on track to where she is now.
