i generally feel safer in European countries that are like us but the US is probably far from one of the safest.

You won't find a really exact list, because crime statistics for so many countries aren't published, and I would imagine that some of the smaller countries with little or no crime don't publish their statistics.
If you want to travel with a view to putting safety above everything, I would suggest the South Pacific region or Indian Ocean island groups of the Seychelles or Maldives. Don't know if any of these are within your budget. Complete worry-free security does not come cheap.
