I have had a leaflet come from Srewfix direct, they are selling a Wylex 12 way fuse box including 10 minature circuit breakers 100 amp main switch, and a 63amp rcd for a split load for £46 + 10 free 2 gang sockets worth £12.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our fuse box needs updating was thinking about purchasing this item to keep for a later date to have installed by :-

A FULLY SKILLED PART P ELECTRICIAN TO INSTALL.

Our existing box is a Wylex with the main switch on the "right" hand side of the box

This new fuse box has a right hand main switch also on the right hand side.

Question.
What would a skilled part P electrician charge to fit this box with no complications.

Also some fuse boxes have a "left" hand main switch does this matter.

The left/right is irrelevant, the electrician should have no problems. Some cables may be short, but can easily be extended inside the board. A decent spark should do that work in about 2½ - 3½ hours and charge about £75.00- £110.00 Depending where you are!

You better check with the electrician first as some people are not keen on fitting consumer units that they never supplied, so he fits it and a month later it develops a fault- if you call him back he will charge you because he never supplied the unit!

Some sparks also like certain brands of electricals, so bear this in mind!

There is not that much work to be honest, I can change one in a couple of hours, or I could before part P. It is the testing that takes all of the time.

Ensure that all of your earthing and bonding is done before the sparks comes to fit the new unit or he will have to do it and charge you more. You can do the bonding and earthing yourself.

Some are left, some right. Dont matter which.
A good spark will be able to change this in no time, although technically he will have to contact your local electricity company to come and pull the main fuse or install an isolator which they charge for, and he will pass this on to you. But many just break the seals and pull the fuse themselves!
