Who can tell me how much gas would a fairly new minivan take to get from Boston, -Ft. lauderdale, and how many tolls in between pretty much following I95 South --what rest stops to avoid --safe ones to make sure we use w/kids (potty calls etc) not in the woods either... regular bathrooms etc...

Also would like to make pit stop in VA to visit some friends, what stops would u make to make lets say a 2 week trip worth it...

Well, that'll be roughly 1500 miles. How much gas depends on the gas mileage of your van - divide 1500 by your van's gas mileage to get the number of gallons of gas you'll need.

It's been a while since I drove down to Florida, but as I recall there are tolls in NY (bridges mostly), all through New Jersey (turnpike and parkway), Maryland and Delaware (bridges and tunnels, I think). After that it's pretty much toll-free.

I've never had any problem at any of the rest stops I've stopped at. New Jersey has huge rest areas with restaurants and everything, at least in the northern half (not sure if you'll go that way, though - I always took I-90 to I-84 through CT, then down to the Tappan Zee Bridge, instead of going on I-95 through NYC).
