Wisconsin beat 3 top 11 teams in Marquette, Pitt and OHIO STATE and both loses are agains NCAA tournament teams. I know that Ohio State's 3 losses are agains 3 top 10 teams but those are the kinds of teams that Wisconsin has won agains while Ohio State has lost to them. Please explain to me how Ohio State is ranked Higher then Wisconsin? Did I mention That WISCONSIN BEAT ohio state!!!

Because the people who vote on these things are mentally unhinged!! Same in football, Boise crushes Oregon St by 28, goes undefeated, Oregon State is one of TWO teams to beat USC yet somehow USC ends the year ahead of Boise. It's all garbage. But all you have to do is read a sports column or turn on the radio or ESPN to realize most sports announcers know very little of which they speak.

I know it certainly seems unfair - but there's actually a few reasons for this:

1. As you stated, OSU has lost three games...but to simply say to "Top 10" teams is an understatement. These three teams are three of the five best teams in the nation. Additionally, these losses all were on the opponent's court (home courts that are notorious for their loud and enthusiastic fans - in other words, environments that make an impact on a game).

Wisconsin has lost to unranked teams.

2. Greg Oden did not play in the one of the losses (a stronger post presence surely would have altered the game) due to off-season surgery - and another loss occurred during only his second game. Sure, he played against Wisconsin (a three point loss) but still only three weeks after his first game. Though still not 100%, Oden is getting better each week. The voters, knowing that he would have been the number one pick in the NBA draft, realize this and are probably giving him the benefit of the doubt.

3. Ohio State convincingly beat Indiana. Indiana beat Wisconsin. Yes, OSU won at home and that might be a difference-maker but it's unlikey that the voters took this into account.

4. The biggest reason: "What have you done for me lately?"
In the past week, Ohio State has beaten two teams that were undefeated (26-0) on their respective home courts - whereas, simply put, Wisconsin lost.

The bottom line:

Relax. At this point in the season, The Top 10 is nothing but a beauty pagaent anyway. However, if your worried about conference standings, that'll be settled on the court February 25th...in Columbus.

ok, first off no way you can compare this to USC being ranked ahead of Boise State in football?!?!?!? They beat Oregon State who beat USC so they should finish higher than USC, who dismantled Michigan in the Rose Bowl??? Haha

Anyways, this is just how the polls work. If the season ended today, Wisconsin would be a 1 seed and OSU would be a 2 seed. The reason they jumped in the polls is because Wisconsin lost and OSU won. It is simply how the polls work. It is a who's hot who's not type of deal. The selection comitee doesn't take a whole lot of consideration into the polls. They look at quality wins, conference play, neutral court games, and poor losses. Wisconsin would definitely be seeded higher than OSU at this point.

None of it really matters. Its what your seeding ends up at the tournament that realy matters. Unlike football, college basketball rankings have nothing to do with any calculation in where you end up in the championship bracket. It is used as a source of information, but not really as part of calculation. They use RPI more and RPI is only based on wins and losses.

With that being said, you have a good argument b/c Wisconsin has a better RPI than Ohio State. But this is the weakness of a poll...you don't know what kind of logic people often use when they vote. The only thing I can suggest is get more Badger sports journalist out in the world so they can vote in the A/P poll.

I think the Wisconsin loss to Missouri St is the cause, but alot of it comes down to what the voters see and think. It's all politics and preconceived notions about a team. It's College Basketball. It really doesn't matter right now. They'll make it into the tourney and then that win of OS will come into play.

Of course I say it doesn't matter because my Gators are on top.

That's crap. No way should Ohio State be ranked above the much better Badger team.
