Check with the college/university of your choice. I know our local university has a Learning Assistance Centre, offering all kinds of help. There are note takers, computers for writing exams and assignments, special exam accomodations, tutors, voice activated software if you can't write/type, etc. Also they offer group discussion sessions so those needing assistance can get together and network. They'll have the odd pizza night just to throw in a little fun, too!

If you'd like assistance for ADHD, you must identify your self as a student with special learning needs. Colleges do not have to make accomodations unless you self-identify and prove that you need such accomodations. So be sure to get the proper documentation and bring it with you to school.

Some students with learning difficulties choose to attend a community college first and some go directly to a 4-year institution.

Others, like University of Hartford (the one from which I graduated) have a college of basic studies. At U. of Hartford, you can attend Hillery College, a college designed to give ALL students (learning disabled, non-native English speakers, etc.)the opportunity to graduate with a degree. You attend Hillyer for 2 years, graduate with your Associate's, and have the option to transfer your credits into another division at University of Hartford so get your Bachelor's (4-year degree) with an additional two years of study. Hillyer gives you the academic advising and support and helps you develop the study skills needed to be successful in college. I'm sure other colleges have similar programs. I am citing this as an example because I'm familiar with how it worked at my school. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Yes, schools must offer accomodations to students with certifiable disabilities. Contact the student services offices at a few schools of your choice.
