As a french woman married to an american man and living in Europe, i'm not so sure Becks will change the whole set of mind there in the US.
I remember my father in law making the following comment when i first told him my brother played in a soccer team and that my future sons would do: 'european football is for whimps!'
I just hope the american public will be more open minded about this sport now a celebrity has decided to give it a try there. Enjoy your life in the US and A Becks!!!

Yes, but there are a lot of naysayers.
The naysayers are US folks who have a strong American Football tradition. It's a tradition that is waning though. All one has to do is look to the explosion of soccer youth leagues. Their is a huge vacuum in the US for these kids to idolize. The girls had their idol in Mia Hamm. No one has really begun name-marketing in a big way to the boys. THIS WILL CHANGE VERY SOON! The springboard for professional growth is guys like Beckham promoting MLS and the rise of American players into top international players - like Dempsey and Onyewu and others who follow. All one has to do is to look at US demograhics and football (with the feet) businessmen.
EPL
1. Fox Soccer World. Look at the increase in US players abroad. More and more people are subscribing to Fox Soccer World and Setanta Sports to see quality EPL matches with US players.
2. Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Manchester United. The folks behind these purchases know franchise opportunities. They bought because they see future growth - which includes a growing US market.
3. MLS -Chivas. It's controlled by the same folks that control Chivas in the Mexican Apurtura. Hispanics are the fastest growing demographic group in the US. They are soccer supporters, not American football supporters. Watch for an increased number of Mexican players in both MLS and EPL. (It's a shame that Borghetti did not get more playing time at Bolton. He is one of the best headers of the ball in the world!)
4. US Summer exhibition matches - they sell out to the tune of 70,000 ish fans in hours at high prices all across the US when top European teams come to play.

I don't think it's going to get big in the USA because there are too many competing sports like American football, basketball, baseball and they're more popular. As far as Americans owning EPL clubs, that doesn't really help make the sport big in US. Beckham might make it more interesting for those who aren't soccer fans yet.

The EPL is not a thing of beauty. Talent level in the UK is questionable when measured against other European and South American talent. As the US continues to develop its professional league, I hope our Mexican and South American friends have more influence than our cousins across the pond.
Beckham will have a very positive influence on the game in the US, with another 5 years added to his playing days.

If it does, i'd sya they'll distroy it. Instead of 2 halves there'll be 4 quarters. Who knows they may even change the shape of the ball. Becks move is a money move & nothing else. He knows his carear is at an end. If hes 10,000 miles away he thinks no one here will see him lookin stupid maybe. Shame really cuz as a manutd supporter, i used to think of him as an ledgend. Its amazing what a few million can do. Leave the yanks out of european football. Oh, & what is "soccer"?

1. IT ALREADY IS BIG...so may people play it.....and the MLS games are quite good and enjoyable if u go to them. Many teams have a great atmosphere.
2. UNFORTUNATELY, Beckham will RUIN Soccer in America and destroy the MLS. He has taken too much of thier money and American People could LITERALLY care less about him. As a soccer player he is UNDYNAMIC and most people will find his effect on the game to be boring at best. He is not the artist that Zidane or Maradona is.

More because of Beckham, I would say, but not particularly the EPL...More just soccer in general. But both, I think, will boost the English Premier League a bit more here in the US, but I don't think it will be any huge, significant amount. But it will, nevertheless, create SOME interest for some here in the US.

Never - Unless they make a match in to 4 quarters, have 12 points for a goal, have 22 players available for each club on match days with unlimited substitutions and widen the goal 6ft and raise the bar 4ft

Unfortunately David Beckham is a great footballer but not the most exciting. There our going to be a lot of people who will feel let done because the hype will far outweigh the results.
Any chance it did have will die because of that fact.

If soccer catches on, then the PL is the most entertaining league. However, at present its really only seen as a sport to play and not watch.
