in the past 6 months than I did in years before. I'd love to hear some learning experience from others, things that altered the way they think and events that changed them. Anyone?

I've learned more about myself since I met my husband three years ago. My husband has helped me to realize the truth that more than likely people who love me will probably make me angry due to criticisms. He also showed me that changes in my life are necessary if you love someone back (none of us are perfect). While me and my husband were dating, he had a house in New Orleans and I was living with my mother so he counseled me and requested that I “woman up” and move in with him. Being my first time ever to be approached with this subject by a man in my life, I had cold feet. As time went on, we each grew more and more closer together as best friends and would often miss each other. This is when I braved up and explained to my mom (being old-school) the reasons why I love this man and that I would move in asked if we would get married. My husband acknowledged my mother that we would. So, I moved in and time went on as we had enjoyed our companionship together (besides, everything was much easier being together than so far apart). . .
And then, Hurricane Katrina came . . .
To this day, by destiny (arranged by God, of course) we are now still together and married throughout all that we’ve been through.
I honestly think that if I had not “womaned up” that the storm would have divided us and we may have never seen each other again.
