when did it start to go downhill does anyone remember?

Friends won the Emmy for best comedy series the year before it went off the air. And it went off because all the actors wanted to move on the other projects and directions not because it stopped getting ratings.
I don't know how they jumped the shark - I don't think they did.
Unless, it's the birth of twins for Chandler and Monica. That twin thing is so trite.

When they left the baby on the bus.
While not a technical shark-jump, I count it in that that was way too irresponsible, insensitive and dangerous for anyone to do in real life, and that makes these characters not the sort of people we should be expected to invite into our living rooms every week. No, DON'T say it's just a joke, IT'S NOT FUNNY to anyone like me, who has had children and now doesn't have them.

I'd say it was when Rachel got pregnant with Ross's baby, but they swam with that for awhile and it was okay, but then it was eaten by the shark when Rachel and Joey fooled around and 'fell in love.'

personally I don't think it jumped the shark but it was kind of weird when Joey and Rachael briefly hooked up...

It got close when Ross and the teacher were dating the same person, but it never officially jumped the shark

For me, it was when Chandler and Monica got together. Chandler was funnier when he was a loser. I always say that Joey and Chandler were my favorite couple.
