Is America really such a 'free' nation, as Americans are always making it out to be!?

If you say something against the government you are 'visited' by police.

Recently, Jeremy Clarkson was there and wanted to use some guns in his 'documentary' and was told HE MUST NOT use them in any anti-Bush or anti-war films.

The media only gives their 'edited' version of the news.

Bush 'edits' any documents before they are allowed to be released to the public.

The government actually pays people to say global warming isn't happening, and also 'gag' scientists that have proof its existence.

There is a town in the U.S that has made it mandatory that EVERYONE who is eligible to own a gun MUST, or they could be prosecuted!!

There are many other examples, but I can't remember them all

So do you still believe you really are a 'FREE' nation, and PLEASE don't give me all this drivel about being 'jealous' blah blah blah etc etc....

Good answer 'Aleksandr'. You obviously don't believe all the rubbish you are spoon fed!! ;-)

•Fahrenheit 9/11 – somebody said ‘Bush was an asshole’ and then he was visited by the FBI.
•Friday night with Jonathon Ross (talk show in the U.K)
•Most administrations have altered stories before they are broadcasted by the media. Have you ever heard of the ‘Al Jazeera’ news network in the U.S? No because it’s not allowed!! And it gives BOTH sides to stories – probably the reason it isn’t broadcast!!!
•There are many examples of Bush editing documents global warming etc… Open your eyes and you will see its happening ALL THE TIME!!!
•Edition of New Scientist
•British Newspaper the ‘Independent’

P.S – I’m from the U.K, and without a shadow of a doubt – I KNOW I have more liberties than you do!!! And don’t start we saved you in WWII… blah blah blah

Corey - maybe should 'edit' your 'speaches' (spelling mistake!) and ALL of what you've said is complete and utter CRAP!!

bopoppa - Alexsandr doesn't believe everything I have said, he has his own facts to back up his claims, something that Bush has never had. Does 'WMDs' mean anything to you!? No, not to anybody else either, because they DON'T exist!!! Own worst enemy??

2007-02-06 07:54:06 · update #5

Why do you some of you feel the need to use insults?? Is it because you know I'm right, and you can't think of any arguments at all, so decide to put 'a good old insult' down instead!?

2007-02-06 07:58:41 · update #6

Yes, I'm sure you could find your own facts 'bopoppa' just like the government ''fact'' of WMD's in the US, which I'm sure an unquestioning sheep like yourself would believe!!
Secondly, what would be the difference between the US and the UK if we were to become an Islamic state??
Not much, because we would both be under a totalitarian government, only difference would be religion...

2007-02-06 08:14:24 · update #7

Yes, you’re right so-called ‘facts’ aren’t always reliable!! No you wrong, I’m not a Muslim, but what you’ve said is very insulting to Muslims, which just goes to show how much of an insensitive, bigoted idiot you are!! Yes, people that believe EVERYTHING they read are sheep – it’s as simple as that!! Yes, I ask people why they insult, i.e. ‘Shut up you’re an a.ss hole etc… Having an intelligent debate (something which is obviously WAY past you) isn’t insulting one another; it’s an exchange of views!! Now, please stop responding with nonsense, it’s obvious you are happy to believe the ‘tripe’ you’re fed from your government. As they say ‘ignorance is bliss’. God bless the USA!!

Che, you are wasting your breath trying to reason with certain American mindsets.
I have approximately 80 relatives living in the USA and hand on heart, their combined IQ is that of an imbecile.

'Freedom' to the majority of these uneducated ignorant rednecks is simply placing a X or punching a card every 4 years on a ballot paper. Because they can do this every four years, their country/way of life, epitomises freedom and liberty.

You would have far greater success teaching a gorilla the finer attributes of Beethoven's 9th Symphony or the inherent beauty in Da Vinci's Mona Lisa than reasoning with such a moronic electorate who are spoon fed their politics via media owned and operated by corporations with a vested interest in who runs their country.

God Bless America; But thank God I live elsewhere!

Yes, I do actually believe that this is a free nation, the most free that there has been. No, it never will be "completly" free, as that happens to be anarchy, which is infinatly more distructive that our government is at current. For the "gagged" scientists, I have to imagine that this information that you have is possibly derived from a report on a survey conducted by the Union of Concerned Scientist, which "found" that 60 percent of the scientists who completed the survey had experienced having the government pressure them into eliminating any reference to climate change in their work.

However, if you read the actual survey, never do they actually ask this specific question. Instead the results from other questions similar to it are twisted in order to get the results they want.

It's common for the mass hallucination that is society to do this. They come up with a conclusion, then find the evidence to support this. In the case of Bush, we have had the mass hallucination that he is somehow more that a man broken, and so now that he makes mistakes, which, even though he is President, is permitable, considering he is only HUMAN, we see him as a bumbling oaf, because what else could he be, even thought he graduated from TWO ivy league schools, which have been continuiosly insulted from people claiming that someone could graduate from them, if only they have enough money, and their father is the ambassador to China.

So is America free? Considering I can't legally be stoned for saying this, and that you can say some bull, and not be arrested, and I can say your'e an idiot, and also not be arrested, because that's free speech, then yeah, I'd have to say yes.

Prove it. All of it. I imagine it is a bunch of half-truths you read on a blog. Until then, you're a waste of time. Oh yes, I'm sure whatever financial assistance your country will receive from us this year is on the way. You can eat soon.

EDIT: So you congrat someone who doesn't believe all he is spoon fed, but believe all that you are reading? "own worst enemy" mean anything to you?

EDIT : Awwww, well you won't have to worry about your "freedom" much longer as you should soon be under Islamic law the way your country is going. Of course, maybe that is what you want. Finally, all of the resources you listed wouldn't dare have a bias and slant to them. You are the very person that you are deriding. And "his own facts" is a very telling way of making my point. I have my own "facts" as well, as everyone who is on the pages do. Very enlightening! I'm sure I can find a newspaper from the UK that states the "fact" that Elvis is alive.

Final Edit: You keep calling people sheep. Is this because you would like to sacrifice certain sheep? You don't know what I believe as I haven't told you. I've pointed out the fact that "facts" are not always reliable no matter where you find them. I'll have to conclude by your statements that you are probably Muslim with very little knowledge of true freedom and the responsibilities that come with it. You have continually derided people who believe what they read and for being sheep if they do. Do the only true "facts" come from what you read? What does that make you? You ask why people have to insult you with their responses, but you do the same thing. You have no credibility. "Own worst enemy" Hypocrite

I agree, that jealousy crap is part of the conservative inferiority complex.

The U.S. is not a free nation because the first step in the democratic process is campaign funding. Funding mostly comes from corporations, which are like their own twisted version of a democratic power... except that instead of one man, one vote, the votes are for sale on an almost totally unregulated market. This is undemocratic... corporations should not be the deciding factor in who can or cannot run for office.

Under this system of skewed democracy, we have lost many of our rights, including habaes corpus, and in many cases, the right to assemble. Business and government have lost oversight, more international free-trade agreements are making the U.S. powerless in the international economy (it doesn't seem like it now but it's complicated...), and the government is constantly breaking constitutional law with no repercussions, for example, the president is breaking U.S. constitutional law by invading Iraq, because international law composed of treaties signed by the U.S. makes it illegal to invade Iraq. The Constitution specifically states that international treaties, which are presented for Congressional approval, must be respected.

For those whose only argument is to call you a liar, I'll explain some of your statements:

Media gives edited version of news: Television is strictly controlled by government, not content specifically but they regulate who can or cannot broadcast. Due to the FCC's unreasonable equipment specifications and fees, only the wealthiest class of person or a corporate-owned network could possibly broadcast.
In order to cut costs, they often take news stories directly from the U.S. government. This has been happening for years, Clinton used this tactic a lot and so does Bush. These are obviously well-controlled, and many news sources can't be bothered to do their own research into any but the most important news grab.

Bush does edit documents. He classifies an unprecedented amount of documents for unknown reasons.

If you say something against the government, you CAN be visited by police. I had a friend in high school who said he thought someone should assassinate Bush. He was reported by a teacher or student and received a visit from the FBI.

Other than that I can't give specifics, like the jeremy clarkson thing I've never heard of but I have no reason to just assume it's false.

hmm...

If you say something against the government you are 'visited' by police.

-> Really? When does that EVER happen? Your speaking out about bush, have you EVER been 'visited' by the police? I doubt it, and you never will... because your making that up. your a da*n liar thats what you are...

Recently, Jeremy Clarkson was there and wanted to use some guns in his 'documentary' and was told HE MUST NOT use them in any anti-Bush or anti-war films.
-> #1, you didnt say why he wanted to use a gun. What? Was he going to play target fire with a poster of Bush? Using a gun, when not showing reels of past videos/films, could be percieved by some people as to a calling to assassinate the President Of the United States. You said that the government told him that he cannot use guns when talking about anti-bush things... but you never said he cannot say anti-bush things. He can say that all he wants, ask Michael Moore... Using guns when talking anti-Bush is basically promoting a voilent solution to solving their conflicts with President Bush.. which is treason, fyi. and complaining about the fact he can't do this, to me, is just as bad.

Bush 'edits' any documents before they are allowed to be released to the public.
-> again, lies. The constitution doesn't allow that. Your lies and skewing of the truth are very humorous tho.. nice try convincing people this crap. The President REVIEWS all documents before they sent to the public, because... HES THE PRESIDENT, everything goes to him before the people, THATS HIS JOB!! If you dont like it, go try and make some country communist so we can just kill you when you turn out like the rest of them commies.
The only 'documents' he edits is his speaches. Would you like me to make it illegal to check your homework before you pass it in?

The government actually pays people to say global warming isn't happening, and also 'gag' scientists that have proof its existence.
-> ARE YOU DAYDREAMING?! WHERE IS THIS CRAP COMMING FROM? DID YOU SHOVE YOUR HEAD TO FAR INTO YOUR AS$? ... #1, NOT ONE scientist says that global warming isnt real... only cavemen and Osama believe that.
#2 Scientists say that global warming is not man-made, because when our weather started to get bad and uneven.. it was 1940. the only cars on the street were in the USA, and there were only like 10,000 of them. And there was no spike in the 70's-90's when cars started to become a neccessity, and kids started having their own around 17...
#3 Weather only started to be recorded in the early 1900's... there are no reports before then, but they can tell by history what the general climate must have been, and from that they have proven that 'severe' climate changes like the ones we see now are natural changes.
So yea, your wrong again, next?

There is a town in the U.S that has made it mandatory that EVERYONE who is eligible to own a gun MUST, or they could be prosecuted!!
->yet you have no idea what the name of that town is, nor the state it is in... lemme guess.. its called wackey-world and your the mayor? next.

There are many other examples, but I can't remember them all
-> "remember them all"? meaning that you saw them somewhere and cant remember what they were? lemme guess.. a CARTOON WEB SITE?!

The US is the greatest country in the world. You probably live in Mexico or something and your just pissed we deported you.

SORRY HILDAGO!! BACK TO MEHICO!!

And Clinton did a lot of the same things.

Who was it - ABC? NBC? Anyway, a movie about 9/11 was changed at the DEMAND of the Clinton's and their buddies.

If we are a "free" nation, why can't a business owner decide for him or herself if they should permit smoking on *their* premises.

If we are a "free" nation, why is a California Democrat trying to ban spanking of children under 4? Yeah, that'll make those abuses stop - just outlaw it, and they'll see the error of their ways. Idiot.

Why do we allow animal rights groups to terrorize LAW-ABIDING Americans? Yes, I said terrorize - the FBI, the State Troopers, the FAA and the National Park Service are all involved, yet these lunatics *still* harass law-abiding hunters and trappers.

Do I consider myself free? You bet your *** I do. I am free to make my own decisions, my own choices. Hell, there are a lot of countries where women have no rights - do you seriously think Americans have it so bad? We don't. But thanks for your concern.

2007-02-06 15:14:34 · answer #7 · answered by Jadis 6 · 2 1

First of all your claims that you have proof for all your statments simply isn't proof. Oh, and isolated instances do not qualify as examples to support your statements.

Secondly, your are correct in your assertion that Americans are not entirely free. There are only a few liberties guaranteed to the people speeled out in the constitution. The constitution does allow for the restriction on our liberties if it is the will of the people, such as restriciting free speech in cases where you would be inciting panic(and before you start in with the "decisions are made by a few people in power not the people", that is our system of government. We elect people to represent us and make decisons). I believe that our liberties are being resticted at an alarming pace. Unfortuantely it always comes disguised in the form of "we know whats better for you than you do"

Thirdly, "Bush edits any documents before they are allowed to be released..." You don't think he is a little busy to be reviewing documentation that is made public. And since he is ultimately responsible for things that are produced by his administration shouldn't he have some oversite?

LOL - I've said many things against my government and never got a visit from the police.

As someone who doesn't even live here, with NO firsthand knowledge of what it's like to live here, how can you possibly ask this question and pretend to be educated about what it is to be American?

America is a free country. It is not, however, a chaotic country. It is a country with laws, because to have no laws would make it a mess.

If you don't like America, you don't have to live here. But believe me... I have more liberties than you do. Believe that.

Okay so everything isn't sun and roses but it's a hell of lot better than many other places and we can make it better. We are going through growing pains, heck this country hasn't been around all that long compared to the UK so give us a break. In a few years we might even get it together enough to bring in England to be the 51st State and solve a couple of your problems too.
