I'm pretty damn sure my sister-in-law is one.
I'm reading "The Sociopath Next Door" and most of the characteristics to look out for are hers, as in EVERY characteristic below.
• Superficial
• Manipulative and Conning
• Grandiose Sense of Self
• Pathological Lying
• Lack of Remorse or Guilt
• Shallow
• Callousness/Lack of Empathy
• Poor Behavioral Controls/Impulsive Nature
• Contemptuous of those who seek to understand them
• Does not perceive that anything is wrong with them
• Authoritarian
• Secretive
• Paranoid
• Seeks out situations where their behavior will be tolerated, condoned, or admired
• Conventional appearance
• Has an emotional need to justify their behavior and therefore needs affirmation (respect, gratitude and love)
• Incapable of real human attachment to others
• Extreme narcissism
....The book says to avoid these people, therefore I may be leaving my man of 14 yrs over it. He refuses to see the truth. I refuse to be blind.

Oh my goodness, I am going to copy this and send it to my husband because this really nails his sister. We have been dealing with her for years, but you should not let her win! Avoid her. The best thing to do is to kill her with kindness and always turn the other cheek, eventually your man will realize how irrational his sister is. But then again, my husband has chosen me and never really taken her side. I think if he didn't I might not have stayed around in the beginning before we were married.

I've dealt with sociopathic personalities too, they are really the worst type of person imaginable, and the only solution is to get away from them. But it doesn't have to be a physical separation, just that they have no controls or ways to affect you. Your husband has been manipulated his whole life and can't see it, ask him to trust you, your opinion and your needs in this matter - that's your marriage deal with him anyway - and end the contact for you or at most to very limited contact and no relationship.

used to until I got divorced and then did not have to deal with it any longer. My ex's mother had her believing that her money was for her and her alone, I had to work two jobs to pay the bills, raise my son and make car payments and the like. Was glad she left because I did actually try to get her to help out with the rent, just to get around one hundard dollars, it was like squezzing blood out of a turnip. Doing fine now. Tell you inlaw to take a flying leap and let the chips fall where they may, and put one foot in front of the other and march on. Her mother caused the friction and divorce in my opinion.

wow this scared me lol. I have known several people that this describes. I must buy this book! Is it just his sister or are there others in his family and him that shows any of these signs? If its just her I would say SHE IS NOT ALLOWED NEAR ME, MY HOUSE, MY KIDS, MY JOB, MY FAMILY! Did I leave anything out? lol. If she is that bad and you feel threatened in any way and he does not respect your wishes then tell him to go live with her.

Don't know where you live, but the US is a really large place with lots of nice places to live.
