The Florabunda Rose, Recanting Knight.
Why?
Is heat hardy as it grows well in desert heat like in Saudi Arabia, Tucson, Az., and Death Valley, CA.
When established root system, is drought resistant and is frost hardy to 0 degrees.
Does well in lower humus soils that lack abundant nitrogen of more humus rich soils.
Has more tolerance for alkaline conditions and as such does not get iron deficiency due to iron lock-up in lower pH soils.
Has large blossoms that are strong scented with a perfume that carries in the evening air for long distances.
Color is intense red center that diffuses outward on the petals changing into deep indigo at the tips.
And the best of all attributes, it is thorn-less thus the Recanting.

The best rose bushes are the old-fashion ones. If you can get one from a flea market, it will probably live and give you much pleasure. Hybrid roses are harder to grow and cost a lot more. The hydrib blooms may be larger and prettier, but you will get more pleasure from a Seven Sisters rose and from a hybrid rose. I paid $1 for a Seven Sisters rose last year and put it in my garden. It is still green and will come back this year to have many blooms.

David Austen's Golden Celebration. It is 6" across and freely flowers all summer. In June it is covered in beautiful lush yellow roses that have a wonderful fragrance--nothing like a tea rose scent. The perfume is of honey, rose, and musk. There is nothing like it. It will grow sturdy 8 foot long canes, and I have it sprawled out over a fence.
All summer long I have Golden Celebration roses in my house in various vases and pitchers. I have about 50 rose bushes and this one is the best as far as performance, reliability, and beauty. You don't have to get all fussy with the pruning like you do with Tea roses, no mosaic virus or canker has ever harmed it, and it just keeps pushing up roses with no fuss or effort.

The Mr. Lincoln. It is a beautiful, and very fragrant large red rose. I live in zone 9 and it blooms out almost constantly with proper deadheading. I have only had it go into a dormant stage with no blooms for about 1-2 months in all of the time I have had it. My grandmother also has a Mr. Lincoln in Zone 5, and hers blooms out 2-3 times a year, very abundantly.

Queen Elizabeth It's called a grandiflora and is in constant bloom 10 or more all the time.It Grows 6 ft tall and doesn't get the winterizing in our zone 5 Mid Indiana that is recommended but it does great is resistant to black spot and mildew only use a disease and bug proofing product made by Bayer. I believe an application on the soil and watered in lasts 6 weeks. The color is pink and it is pleasantly fragrant.

I agree with Sharon, the knock out series of roses are easy and last a very long time, they are very popular with landscapers.
