Because of the use of common sense we have mostly lost the ability to use our instincts and know when something is wrong in nature. IE.: earthquakes.

I think we don't inherit a lot more than we do inherit, as far as personality traits and the way we deal with the world around us.
Things like looks are pretty easy to explain by heredity (although some of us get a different look than what our parents have) . in my family, the 3 of us siblings look like we came from different parents. We all have different hair colors, eye colors, heights, builds, etc. Then there are some families where every child looks pretty much the same.
I think our personality traits and ways we react to things and the world are learned traits, and not inherited ones. An interesting thing though, my daughter is so scared of spiders, and has been since she was able to talk. It almost seems as if the fear is inherited because my mother and I are also really afraid of spiders. We couldn't sing "itsy bitsy spider" to her because of this.
My other children are not as afraid of spiders.

What we don't inherit: attitude, how we handle stress

Oh I love this question!! Come on people we all had parents and this person wants to know what characteristics from your parents did you NOT inherit.

Ill start with, I did not inherit a hairy chest like my father had...I was smooth chested and still am.
Oh, I als didn't inherit being gay from my parents.

In biology there are dominant & submissive genes. For example, brown eyes usually are dominat to blue eyes, but not always. It's the same with mental health. If there are some traits in your family, you have a better chance of inheriting them, but it doesn't mean you will.
