Hi, are you trying to run 2 xbox 360's or just one. I assume you are trying to connect the 360 to YOUR router wired. Can you see if you can get YOUR router to connect to the internet first before plugging the 360 into it.

Here is what I would try. Unplug your friends router and plug yours in where his is. Also assume that he has a pc upstairs. Connect the pc to your router. Try and connect the the internet through his pc. Bear in mind that your router will need to be re-configured with his username and password. You may have got this far already. If you got a netgear router it should be easy.

From here on it should be simple. Plug the router into to any phone socket down stairs and plug the 360 in. Just set ip and dns to auto.

Hope this helps. My 360 is attached to my router wirelessly and that was a real pain to set up with a belkin gaming adapter.

PS. Been thinking about this and its quite simple really. Why do you need to tke your router. Why don't you just plug your friends router in downstairs and connect the 360 to that. You can email me if you like at

if you have any further problems. I spent quite a lot of time setting up 2 xbox's and then 2 xbox 360's
