is the installation stopping when the installation comes up to the stage"performing inventory"
if so this signals you have a invalid copy of windows and in this case service pack 2 will not load
the only other reason you cant install sp2 is if the file is corrupted or damaged but as sp2 update comes directly from microsoft this is highly unlikely
im afraid you more than likely need to purchase a genuine copy of windows xp or you can get a product key directly from microsoft ,as this is all that signifies a genuine xp,25 numbers, the actual disk is worthless(around 5p) but the product keys are worth their weight in gold
then again if you are going to pay for a product key you may be better just upgrading to vista basic as the o.e.m vista basic is around the same price as xp home
take a look....http://www.dabs.com/ProductView.aspx?Quicklinx=4DF5&CategorySelectedId=11168&PageMode=1&NavigationKey=11168,404130000&InMerch=1
sorry i cant give you any better news
good luck

You need to tell more about the problem you're running into in order to get any useful answers. Please add some more details to your question (you can do this without it costing you more points for asking).
At a guess: If your computer has an active virus infection, or adware or spyware, that could be messing things up enough that SP2 won't install. If you haven't already done so, give your computer a full anti-virus scan, then run adware/spyware checks with Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE and SpyBot Search & Destroy. If any of them finds and cleans any infection, have another try at the SP2 install and see if things go any better.

Are you trying to install it directly from the Microsoft Windows Update website? If so and it isn't working try downloading the entire thing and runing it from your hard drive. Make sure you have plenty of hard drive space because it is a big download and it will need even more to un-compress and install. You can just use Google to seach for a place to download the entire service pack.

it rather is what takes place once you install a pirate OS. on condition that this reproduction has been earlier put in on yet another gadget it now fails to validate as authentic. you may purchase a replica and use the top unique key which got here with it. Your chum might have an interest to be attentive to that this unlawful use has no cancelled his activation key, making the disk little need whilst a restoration disk for his own gadget.
