usually there's a nut, or a wingnut, that holds the tire up in the center. Sometimes the vehicle will come with a tool to help you out. Usually, it's the same tool that comes with your jack. Just turn that counterclockwise and it will start coming down...usually it's on a cable so it will lower slowly.

Most SUV-MINI VAN-PICK UP have a hole in the rear bumper or next to the license plate. You need to use the tire tool or a special rod to turn the screw that lowers the tire. You should also have detailed instructions in the OWNER'S MANUAL or with the jack and tools. Some have stickers on the underside of the rear carpet. A few import vehicles have the turning mechanism inside to trunk (rear cargo area)

The proper tool inserted in the proper place and turned in the correct direction will allow the tire to be lowered from its mounting place. Read the fine manual ( RTFM ) for instructions.
