Parts of it are in the Yorkshire Television studio, then there's another studio next door for 'night time' shots but it's inside. Andy's farm is filmed in Alwoodley in Leeds.

Most of the filming is done in the YTV studios in Leeds.
The Emmerdale 'new' village has been built in the grounds of Harewood House, which is near Leeds, and a lot of filming is done there.
About 10 miles north west of Harewood House, and about 10 miles from Leeds airport, lies the tiny village of Esholt, (served by bus and train from Leeds), where all the filming used to take place, and you can actually go in to the 'Woolpack' pub there. I have sat and enjoyed many a drink in there while chatting to the cast members.
Andy's farm is filmed in Alwoodley in Leeds.
The original 'Emmerdale Farm' is situated just off the A658 Bradford-Harrogate road, near the village of Leathley, which is just down the road from Otley, (Hotten)

Location shooting originally occurred in the village of Arncliffe in Littondale, one of the less frequented valleys of the Yorkshire Dales. In exterior shots, the town's hotel, The Falcon, was used to represent the fictional Woolpack Hotel. Eventually the location of the shooting location became publicly known, which is perhaps what prompted the move to the village of Esholt. This location also became a tourist attraction. Now a purpose built set in Harewood is used. Location footage of the fictional market town of Hotten is shot in Otley. The Benton Park School in Rawdon and the primary school in Farnley are also used as shooting locations. Indoor scenes are mostly filmed in the Emmerdale production centre in Leeds (located next to the main YTV building).

The studios are in Leeds, the outside filming takes place in a small village in North Yorkshire (owned by the studios)
