How do you defrost your car? Painstaickingly scraping off the ice, or with a frivolous swoosh of hot water?
Have you ever actually heard of anyone who broke their windscreen with a kettle full of hot water, or is this an urban myth?

I tend to start car then spray de-icer to help clear windscreen. My friend actually got a smashed back window as she put on the window heater when it was too frozen (-8C). I'm now wary of even using back and mirror heater till i get the worst of ice off!

I wish there was a faster way. When really cold i put a cover on outside of front screen which makes a huge difference. Frequently the window is clear when you get in the car!

windows will crack if you suddenly turn them from a frosted state to clear with a kettle of hot water. the best way to defrost your car is to start the engine and put the fan/blower onto the window with full power on hot. not only does this gently de-frost your window extending its life it also warms up your engine giving better fuel economy, a warm car to get into and longer engine life. there are alarm systems available where you can start your car by remote with the doors still locked. just set the fan and heat etc the night before, wake up, push the remote and whilst you are having your cornflakes the car is warming up for you.
