But why would you be in a position to shatter one, you just put it on paper for gods sake!

1st. I know someone that was blinded by a none shatter proof ruler.

2nd. You can shatter them by twanging them on the edge of desks.

But don't make the same mistake as me make sure your ruler is shatter proof before twanging it, otherwise you could blind someone like I did.

You have to now use a shatter proof ruler mainly because if you break it it doesn't shatter and hurt anyone, it just breaks in half and doesn't fall into small pieces so that anyone can get hurt. It is basically for safety reasons.

Maybe people still hit their kids with them? I have never seen a ruler shatter, but I am going to go home and try now. (Not by hitting someone, though!)

Some person probably sued them because little Johnny or Susie was messing around with the ruler, broke it, and got hurt, so of course the manufacturer MUST be at fault . Right???

So when a downtrodden office worker suddenly snaps and tries to stab their boss with the stationary, the ruler company won't get sued, and the worker will instead turn to the ever-trusty compass.

It's if you knock it off your desk or smack someone around the head with it... (all good fun) you don't want to go out and buy another ruler do you? Although the companies would make poop loads! hummmmmmmmm....

Yes I have, we used to have competitions with rules - balancing them on the edge of a table, placing a book on one end, then whacking the over hanging edge. Most just break in to a couple of peices, really jagged peices though, it is rather dangerous :)
