Actually to the person who said that my parents taught me better, I am Polish about 1/8. My last name sounds very Polish. While I am proud of my ancestry, I always wondered why people said Polish people were stupid

Anyone who knows them knows that this is wrong. The only real problem with Poland is its location between two areas of the world known to go to war. Poland is always conquered in order to take Europe because it is easy to march across and has some of the best soil in the world. They are an agricultural society which may also make them seem back country, but after the fall of communism there, they had to work with what they had. Russia stripped them of everything valuable but the soil. So did Hitler and Napolean. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Polish. Of course you would never know that in the States since they were the last large group to come over as immigrants. They took the place of the Irish, Italians, and any other nationalities in the jokes. Just wait, it will be the Mexican's turn next if history repeats.

They tend to be practical, down-to-earth people, not much involved with fancy-schmantzy, artsy-craftsy type of stuff, so snooty "high brow" people look down on them. Chopin, of course, was a notable exception. Several of the people I'm fondest of are Polish, by the way. And all terrific kissers (with a little instruction from yours truly).
BTW, there are some great ethnic "jokes" in which the Polish characters are the good guys.

Well that's obviously rubbish and racist.
I'm british and my boyfriend is on his way to Poland right now with his work colleagues. He should arrive in a couple of hours and I can't wait for him to tell me about it.
If anyones interested, all of the Polish people I've met have been lovely and definitely not stupid.

I have no idea. Here in Canada we tell jokes about people from Newfoundland making fun of their lack of intelligence. I have no idea why either. P.S. How did the Polish newfie break his arm raking leaves.? ------- He fell out of the tree. How many Polish newfies does it take to change a lightbulb? -------- 100- 1 to hold the light bulb and the other 99 to lift the house and turn it.

it's just bc they are hard-working and when they first immigrate 2 america usually take jobs that others dont want...like housekeeper, landscaper, construction worker....but after a few years, they are making 6 figures or even millions, and yet the Americans that make the stupid comments are still flipping burgers at McDonalds...how ironic.
