Charles I of England did in fact lose his head which does make him unique to the other monarchs. It was the first and only time the monarchy in England had been overthrown in favor of a different type of government led by Oliver Cromwell.

Charles did many stupid things in his reign. He married a Roman Catholic wife despite the objections of Parliament and the public. He consorted with controverisal religious leaders and quite effectively made many political mistakes.

The country dissolved into civil war and Charles I was tried, convicted, and executed for High Treason.
