How many airports are there in the world?

There are so many countries in the world and some are communist and won't dispatch info like that. I do know a website that can help you. The U.S. has 14,858 airports and as far as I know that's the most any country has. I think the U.K. only has like 3,000. Go to this website below, pick a country and go to transportation the number of airports is there. You're going to have to tally them up yourself but there are like 300 countries so it's up to you if you have time. Here is the link

This is complicated by the fact that if you consider an airport to be someplace that an airplane can land, there are an infinite number of possible airports in the world. While some airplanes really do need a paved strip of runway in order to safely land, there are lots of airplanes, both military and civil-use, that can land anywhere where the ground is reasonably level, reasonably firm and reasonably free from obstruction at the take-off end.

And if you include places where a plane equipped with amphibious floats can land, then you have to include most lakes, some rivers, and the oceans as airports too.
