They do not need a reason, its the "IN" thing to do. Teach people that the obvious is untrue. Its called brainwashing.

It is a forum to present the company's policies on discrimination and harassment. It serves as part of legal protection to show that the organization put the employees on notice that certain behavior would not be tolerated. The training is used as evidence that though the company does not permit incorrect behavior, the employee chose to do it anyway and serves as grounds for termination.

We provided diversity training as 60% of our work force is disadvantaged individuals. It helps place into perspective how fortunate you are in life and makes you aware of slights you may not know you do. For example, when people talk to disadvantaged people, they tend to look at everyone...and respond back with an answer to everyone, except the disadvantaged individual. Unfortunately, I was guility of this and have learned to now look each person individually in the eye, especially the deaf (when you want to look at the interpreter instead.)

1. because it was ordered by a court or agreed to in a settlement of a discrimination case (ie to remedy past discrimination)
2. because it makes business sense if everyone's ideas and contribution is heard (can expand customer base/opportunities)
3. because it's only fair to treat employees equally
4. because there are many cases of harassment reported and the company is trying to stop it (to reduce their legal exposure or just to make a better workplace)
5. They need to fill spots at a trainingn workshop or conference and this course was aavailable.
