The light comes on when I place a cd in the drive. I also tried going to run, with no luck. Properties says it is running properly.

Could be due to one of these reasons.

1. You may have a corrupted driver. In that case, you would need to reinstall the driver.

2. It's defective

3. You may have some CD's that were burned, but simply cannot be read by your device. If they are regular music CD's, then this wouldn't be the problem.

You could attempt cleaning the lens on the drive with a q-tip and justa a little alcohol... But more than likely your CD drive just needs replaced.. I had to have a new one put in my laptop a few months ago...

REPLACE IT.

CD Roms are no longer the expensive device they used to be..

You should be able to find and adequate Reader/Writer for less than $40..

GOOD LUCK
