Why is the word ambulance painted in reverse at the front of the vans??

because when you have an ambulance behind you and you look in your rearview mirror, then the word is the right way.

I would think because of the reflection in the mirror when a passing driver and an ambulance approach one another. I would call a hospital receptionist or go by and ask them (don't try to go to an ER or call them...they'll think you're celebrating April Fool's Day or Halloween early).
