Not Much. I guess a cover band plays cover songs. Doesn't have to be from just one artist. A tribute band is just playing songs from one artist. Also, many times a tribute band dresses up like the artist, a cover band just plays the songs.

A tribute band with embody the characters and essence of the original band. Even dress like them perhaps. However, they will often play the music true to its original style. Sometime however, a band will perform a tribute and just play an entire album in their own shape and style. I'm not sure this consists of a tribute band, but more a band performing a tribute to another band. I'd would call them unoriginal if this is all they do for a living.

Cover bands on the other hand, just take songs from any band and makes it their own. Adapting it to the times and their style.

A cover band does songs by different groups, a tribute band only does songs by one certain group. Sometimes they even dress like the group or do things the band did. I've seen a Pink Floyd tribute where they acted out parts of The Wall (movie).
