Hey I just moved to Dubai and I would like to ask anybody who know any cheap way I can get to call the US on a cheap rate. All I have is in the US and I gotta call back atleast every single day or two so I gotta find a way thats affordable. Plus Im not here on a business trip or whatever, somehow I am a student so I dont have the big pockets so anything affordable and reliable will be appreciated. And yeah if anything to do with my US number I dont have it. Thanks

I'd start off using prepaid phone cards. Once you get settled you might could use VOIP servies like Skype or Vonage.

Sorry to say Skype along with any other VOIP is banned in the UAE. It is "blocked due to its content being inconsistent with the religious, cultural, political and moral values of the United Arab Emirates" (quote taken from trying to access those sites). There are 2 telecoms providers here (both owned by the government) following the same government regulations. So expect to pay about $2US per minute.
BUT if you and the person you want to talk to has access to internet with a wetcam and mic, you can chat for free using one of the different messenger programs. A lot of the internet cafes here have this and they're pretty cheap.

The best one right now from my experience is voipfibre. I have used voipdiscount, actionvoip, skype, but nothing provides per second billing and cheapest rates to india. Call for 30 secs and pay for only 30 secs. frikkn amazing. Go with this one

Vonage...you can call from anywhere in the world with it, just take it with you. You can have a US number and use it in Dubai.

convinced , airtel gulf calling rates are very low comparitevely ............. 17.5 / min is too tremendous ......... huh ......... how did u cope with it !! attempt flow to the different solid provider carriers ....... airtel is likewise solid
