Me & a co worker got a huge raise back in the summer. But because of this my boss told us that we wouldn't be able to get one come January. I don't think it was written in our file because my co worker told me that she got a form last Thursday stating that she was getting a 3% raise (we had our evals a couple of wks ago) & that what we usually get every January. I asked her if she was going to say anything to them & she said no. We have a new boss now & I guess she wasn't aware that we weren't suppose to get one, however I haven't received a form stating that I am getting one. We stay close to each other & I should've already gotten a letter by now. I get paid Monday but I don't want to wait till then. Me & this co worker are the only 2 people that do this job so we are essentially suppose to be making the same. I would like to know if I got a raise also. What should I do? I don't want to ask my boss...should I ask some one in payroll...maybe they'll know. How do I ask this??

I don't know what she is making, I just know that she got a raise...ok??
Also she didn't do anything outstanding...no more than I did. We do the same exact job. I've even been there longer. Fair is Fair!

I would definitely go to you boss...becuase if you go to payroll they will most likely contact your boss, and then he will know that you were to afriad to ask him.

That is a tough one. I had a job where I did payroll-and I was instructed that info was personal, and confidential. So, payroll probably won't be able to answer you. How close are you to the new boss? In that way I mean, how good is the communication between you and the boss? I would personally suggest you wait until Monday, pay day. Or, if you really don't want to wait, please ask your boss for an appt. (even 10 15 min-your boss-she is a busy lady, and it will be more prof. of you, and respectful to do the appt.). And, at that time, ask what the rules are about co-workers talking about their pay with one another. If you were not told of a rule abut this at the beginning of your job, there probably isn't one. Tell her what you told us, and see what she says. Like your interview was, thank her for her time talking with you on this. Take care.

This is the problem when people discuss pay in the workplace. Neither of you should know what the other is making, what their evaluation said and what raise they got. Reason for that is what is happening now....you are in a catch-22...if you don't ask you may not get the raise, if you do ask and explain the reason why you are asking they may say that your co-worker should not have gotten the raise and take it away from them.

The better question to be asking yourself is "why do I deserve a raise?" Did you do more work? Did your co-worker earn a raise? We should each worry about our own situation and not the other persons.

I agree with the first answer. I think you should ask and then again are you sure she got a raise and wasn't trying to see if you got one first? Hey just ask and see what happen I just don't want you to get in trouble discussing each other pay. You know that is against company rules.

Has it occurred to you that maybe she is being paid less, and the boss gave her a raise to equalize your pay - being that you are doing the same job and roughly the same level of output.

No, you need to stand up for yourself and ask your boss. if not, its going to be eating you up until you find teh answer to your raise question. Just be polite and ask him or inform him that you are suppose to get another raise. Does it say somewhere that you are enititled to a raise every year?
