I am not sure that you can say it is considered "odd"... More a case of not in fashion?
I have a 15 year old who is a fine rider and we are not about the hunt. In fact, though we live in the countryside steeped in The Hunt I am anti hunting and just love horses.
:-)
Daughter feels grand KNOWING how to ride a bike, bicycle and a horse. ;-) Life skills not everyone has access to.
"Horses for courses" as they say. LOL! Pun intended!

Automobiles have made horses an obsolete form from transportation. In a world where everyone is always in a rush, horses are now considered too slow now these days. Besides being faster, automobiles have greater storage capacity and can act as a mini shelter in rough weather. Roads and highways were specifically built for the mass number of automobiles.
While uncommon, riding horses are still more than just a rich man's hobby. People from rural areas who raise cattle and other livestock still use horses as transportation over shorter distances. Some members of law enforcement ride horses in places not easy accessible by car such as wooded areas.

Gee I hope that at least the 'horses' and 'hounds' are still here, even if I don't believe in 'killing.' Unfortunately, we have far too many 'cars' in this world, and we don't 'need horses' to help us to 'plow the fields' or 'get to town' any more. Also, as there are 'more people' and 'fewer horses' it get more expensive to 'house and maintain' an animal that basically isn't 'good for anything' except 'riding' (although you can 'love' them as easily as you can a cat or dog or fish). I can't go 'riding' any more because I'm 'crippled with rheumatoid arthritis' but I can certainly 'applaud you' if you can go out 'riding' when you want to, and I can also 'promote' riding horses to virtually EVERYONE because horses have been 'proven' to be helpful in 'treating' children who have 'multiple disabilities' and also 'people who have 'mental health issues' ... but people these days seem to be 'afraid' of horses because they are so BIG in comparison with 'humans' ... so they're now actually breeding 'miniature horses' that are the size of medium-large dogs and can live 'in the house.' I'm sorry, but I really LOVE the 'big fellows' that live in stables and play in fenced meadows, and can 'go a long distance' where no car should ever be allowed. So, no, you are not the 'only one left' but you'll have to 'take a ride' for me, because I can't climb up onto the animal any more myself.

I think it reflects a change in society and culture. Many of us accept that killing animals for fun is not an acceptable activity to have in the 21st Century. I don't even consider eating or wearing animals as appropriate (for me) anymore.
I live in the countryside and the age-old excuse that fox hunting is required to stop the damage done by foxes is no longer an acceptable nor a valid excuse. Any intelligent individual knows that if farmers of poultry and like ensured better husbandry then foxes would not be a problem. And then there are the other excuses that it is 'traditional'. Well put it this way: we could argue that child labour was traditional but thankfully we all came to our senses on that one!

no longer sufficient to make that a lot of a distinction. i be attentive to women that trip on a daily basis and are nonetheless obese. It does upload slightly definition nonetheless. I run 2x an afternoon and do a lot with weights yet driving horses facilitates with my middle muscle mass.

I live in an area surrounded by stables and there's horses all over the place. They wouldn't be so bad if their riders had to poop scoop like dog owners do, and if they stuck to bridleways and kept off grass and footpaths.

well back then horses were a type of transportation before cars were made and now it would be a little funny to see people using cars and horses and it would be funny to see them both parked at wal*mart

They still exist
I have two, they are not that expensive. You just need a place to keep them.
