If you ask her to, yes. Next time don't answer the door.

yes. Does she stay nearby?

Personally, I would try to move a reasonable distance away from her, if she's that sort of person.

Obviously that's a pretty drastic step, so otherwise insist she phones. If she continues coming round without phoning stop answering the door - she'll get the message very quickly.

I think that it is wrong for anyone to drop by without calling. Its called invasion of privacy. I have been known to sit in my living room with the door open looking at people as they ring the bell and not let them in because they did not let me know that they were coming. How does your mother know that you want to be bothered at that time. She could be disrupting an intimate moment or anything. To me its rude and disrespectful. Talk to your mom and let her know that you don't mind her coming but she has to call first.

Does she refuse to call or have you even told her to call first? The way i see it is this..... Your mother isnt going to be around forever. Make her feel welcome when she visits even if she doesnt call. If your wife is the one who is complaining, make her see it your way and stop being rude.

Is she dropping by at improper times ? OR too often? If yes, then it would be fine to mention that she might want to call ahead next time, otherewise quit your whining she is your mother!!!

Next time she just drops in,say you nearly mist us we were just going out,and say nicely will you ring to let me know next time you are coming as we will worry in case you just turn up and we are not in,that way she will think you are asking her to call for her benefit and not your own.

It's disrespectful of her to do so. Don't answer the door when she comes over unannounced.
